Vitamin B12 (Cobalimin) - Energy and Depression Fixer for the Average Joe

B12 is essential for the production of red blood cells, normal nerve cell activity, DNA replication, and production of the mood-affecting substance SAMe (S-adenosyl-L-methionine) and with folic acid and B6 for controlling homocysteine levels.

Vitamin B12 is best known as the Energy vitamin. People who are tired have gone to the doctor for B12 shots for years. the shots guarantee absorption which is apparently a pretty common problem when it comes to B12.

But I was in the health food store when a woman created a rush on the B12 for reasons that weren't health-related at all. She said she was getting B 12 shots from her doctor/husband and that her hair and nails were growing like crazy as a result. All the women in the place ran for the sublinqual drops!

Vitamin B12 has been known to be helpful in cases of anemia, depression and high homocysteine levels. People with chronic fatigue syndrome have experienced some relief with B12. Other conditions that have been helped by B12 but not consistently are Age-related cognitive decline,
Bell’s palsy,
Canker sores,
Cyanide poisoning,
Cystic fibrosis,
Infertility,
Low back pain (with vitamin B1, vitamin B6),
Sickle cell anemia and
Migraine headaches.

Deficiency symptoms:
Serious deficiencies of vitamin 12 create a condition called Vitamin B 12 anemia and again it can simply be the result of an inability to absorb the stuff due to Crohn's disease or a vegan diet or problems in the small intestine where vitamin b12 is absorbed, as opposed to being a case where you're not getting enough. Symptoms include:

  • Jaundice
  • Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet
  • Equilibrium difficulties
  • Confusion
  • Personality changes and depression

    The B-vitamins are so well-known as mood and well-being vitamins that taking a good B complex and a sublingual B12 for depression or fatigue just can't hurt. Of the hundreds of supplements I've dropped at my mother's this is one she says does give her a boost. Excesses are washed out daily which is why you need to stay on top of them.
