When strawberries are grown in good soil the way they are supposed to be grown, they are better than candy - as nature meant them to be! In season, these France-grown strawberries are so sweet you can't add ice cream or whipped cream because they'll be too sweet - can you imagine? And once you start eating them you can't stop! And you don't have to go to a special organic market - they're at the chain supermarket! No wonder everyone there loves fruit and lives longer! Can we do this? I think we can!
Strawberries, cranberries, blueberries, tart cherries, raspberries - berries have made so much anti-cancer news lately it reminds me that cave people probably ate a ton!
With all the antioxidant studies coming out, one after another, berries - all of them - are looking like life-saver foods.
Upon researching berries to see exactly what they did I ran across these incredible studies:
A study conducted at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE showed an anthocyanin-rich berry extract formula exerted anti-angiogenic, antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties.
A separate study done at Ohio State University showed a multiple-berry extract inhibited tumors developing in endothelial tissue and there was also inhibition of tumor cells forming in the blood (hemangoma).
Research at the University of Iowa shows that tart cherries contain perillyl alcohol, a natural compound that is extremely powerful in reducing the incidence of all types of cancer. In the study, perillyl alcohol was found to be up to five times more potent than the other known cancer-reducing compounds at inducing tumor regression.
Cherries are rich in isoqueritrin and queritrin. According to leading researchers, queritrin is one of the most potent anticancer agents ever discovered.
An Australian study found raspberry inhibited the growth of 12 varieties of bacteria and the yeast Candida albicans.
Like strawberries, blackberries have been shown to inhibit esophageal cancer.
Hamster and rat studies conducted at Ohio State University showed blackberries inhibited tumor formation in the oral cavity and inhibited proliferation of colon cancer cells.
A study at Cornell University showed strawberries inhibited the proliferation of HepG(2) liver cancer cells while another study showed isothiocyanates in strawberries inhibited esophageal cancer.
In an animal study published in the Journal of Neuroscience, researchers found that a diet rich in blueberries reversed age-related declines in balance and coordination.
A study out of Tufts University showed blueberries enhanced memory-associated neuronal signaling
In a study of 1271 elderly people in New Jersey, those who ate the most strawberries (another berry like blueberries that contains ellagic acid) were three times less likely to develop cancer than those who ate few or no strawberries.
Scientists have found berries have some of the highest antioxidant levels of any fruits. Kale and spinach are the only vegetables with oxygen radical absorptive capacity (ORAC) values as high as fresh delicious berries.
We talk constantly about possible reasons for the huge rise in cancer. Berries, from everything I've ever read, were a staple in the life of early humans. I never liked berries, but I learned to like them and this berry blend powder, both a part of my life.
