The 3 ways to attack aging skin without plastic surgery are
  • exercise (increasing circulation and encouraging the body to heal itself ),
  • supplements/food (things you ingest in your body) and
  • topical supplements (things you put ON your body)
    - and they work together.

Topical Supplements known to help aging, wrinkled, saggy, spotted skin
First let me caution you to WATCH LABELS! Any wrinkle is going to look better if it is coated with moisture. So if a product claims "Proven to reduce the APPEARANCE of wrinkles" - well you can reduce the appearance yourself by just putting on any old moisturizer! In other words, that's misleading. What we are looking for is studies that prove the DEPTH or LENGTH of the wrinkle itself was reduced. Wrinkles are scars and we're looking for ways to heal and get rid of those scars, not just make them LOOK better (although there's a place for that in your makeup regime.)
    • COQ10 (pronounce Coe-Cue-10): COQ10 - Although there are few studies on using coq10 topically, the one that was done in Germany is pretty encouraging, encouraging enough to convince Nivea to put Coq10 in one of its anti-wrinkle formulations and tout it as effective for diminishing "fine lines". The group of people who were studied put co-q10 on their faces and by all reports there was a great improvement in crow's feet - that is, wrinkles around the eyes were much diminished! I tried putting the vitamin itself on my arms and legs and saw an immediate improvement in age spots and texture! I had added so many things to my lotion I wasn't sure it was the COQ10 until I recently isolated it. I believe this is a supplement that works! It doesn't hold up well though. Like Vitamin C it is fragile and breaks down quickly so you must add it fresh each day. I just learned this so my own experiments are starting from scratch. Send your experiences! :-)
    • Renova and Retin-A - Read about Renova before using - companies and doctors do NOT give you all the information you need to use Renova effectively. Renova is Retin-A with emollients, the strongest Vitamin A product invented yet and I LOVE IT. It looks pricey but it's not: it lasts 4-6 months. This is the first product I have ever used that turned back the hands of time. The studies on it are most encouraging.
    • Hydroxy Acids - Alpha and, now, beta - Glycolic acid is the most well-known ALPHA hydroxy acid, I've used it for years and when I run out, oh what a difference! There are now beta hydroxy acids that are much better, less damaging and stronger. Glycolic acid and sycilic acid have a peeling (exfoliate) effect on the skin and they rejuvenate, rebuilding collagen and elastin.
    • Copper Peptides - Copper peptides and Renova are my two favorite skin products. Copper peptides rebuild wounded skin. The founder's advice is to use hydroxy acids to peel and in essence, wound. Then apply the copper peptides to rebuild. I have had some great results with copper peptides.
    • StriVectin - This product is hot hot hot. I LOVED what Stri Vectin did for my skin. As for wrinkles it did work a bit, but it has more effects, like smoothing skin. This is great for under-40 women on their faces and for small wrinkle problems like minor crow's feet. Meanwhile, I use it on my hands and wrists. It's one of the best moisturizers ever and fades those age spots!
    • Alpha Lipoic acid and DMAE - Dr. Perricone's face firming activator is absolutely the best in the ALA and DMAE skin product category. You get what you pay for with these ingredients. I've tried alpha lipoic acid/DMAE mixes from the health food stores that did absolutely nothing. The DMAE in Dr. Perricone's products works!
