Hair Loss in women - Natural and UNnatural Ways to Make Your Hair Grow Back!
Personal Recommendation to Start:
1. Start a
liquid protein
and
cystine
!
2. Drink green tea 2-3x a day (no pills, just tea) UNLESS you're hypothyroid
3. Take evening primrose oil or phytoestrogens
4. Apply copper peptides and emu oil several times a week and scratch it in with
a scalp brushes
5. Don't wash your hair too often, and keep it tangle-free.
Hair loss is devastating for women.
If hair is falling out just on the top, that is caused by an estrogen deficiency and can be corrected by estrogen replacement.
If hair is falling out all over, that is usually caused by low thyroid hormone levels in cells and there is only ONE WAY to measure that and it's the
Free T3 test
. (If doctors have told you your thyroid is normal and you're losing your hair,
read this page about the correct thyroid test
and how to read the results and then ask to see the results. If you find you have a problem and your doctor refuses to medicate you, visit stopthethyroidmadness.com where you will find a lot of company.)
It's rumored that iron deficiency causes hair loss but iron deficiency almost always accompanies low thyroid hormone so it's important to get the thyroid tested correctly after the age of 40.
Some of the tips below will help ANY cause of hair loss!
Things to Try for Thinning Hair
For thyroid or nutritional related hair loss 2 days of this will stop hair falling and bring a lot back, too. Good for anyone's hair!
FDA approved for stimulating hair growth! Folligen with copper peptides. The worst thing Folligen will do to your hair is color some of the gray and make the strands thicker. Not bad, eh?
Emu oil has been shown to stimulate 80% of hairs into growth stage! Use a dropper.. below
Dropper for getting hair growth ingredients into scalp where hair is thick.
Or bottle with dropper for easier use and combining ingredients.
Scalp Brush Massager. Great for circulation and ensuring copper peptides and emu oil penetrate the scalp!
Evening Primrose Oil with Vitamin E
This was about the only company I could find that had the good sense to add Vitamin E to their oil product to prevent oxidation. 60 softgels.
240 Green Tea Bags
The only brand of tea that worked (only caffeinated, not decaf) to stop losing hair. Add to bottled water to drink over the course of the day - it's not as potent but easier to remember. Hot tea works best, a couple of times a day.
Evening Primrose Oil
500 mg night and day is all dermatologists say you need to stop hair from falling. This is 250 softgels, good price, decent company.
Gelatin or Liquid Protein
-- This is the number one thing ANYONE can take to improve hair growth! If there is a possibility of
faulty digestion of proteins being the cause of hair loss
,
liquid protein
might bring all your hair back. Hair - and fingernails - are 100% protein. Anyone would benefit from taking supplemental
predigested protein
or
gelatin
because no matter how slowly or inefficiently your liver is working, this protein is so easily digested it will get to all the right places and do all the right things.
It used to be assumed that we get enough nutrients from our foods but that's not true: the minute our livers start slowing down, where a lot of the food processing takes place, the assimilation and metabolization of nutrients decreases. The speed of the metabolism is controlled by the levels of thyroid hormone in cells and the thyroid's output starts decreasing as we age.
A study done with sheep showed that wool production was tremendously increased by adding
gelatin
and
cystine
to the sheep's diet! It worked for me! I hope it will work for you, too! Here is a
predigested liquid protein
and here is a
potent liquid protein: 15 grams for a cherry-flavored ounce - not predigested.
Green tea
-- Green tea may influence blood concentrations of hormones linked to at least one form of genetic hair loss: androgenic alopecia. A Japanese study found that drinking green tea can increase levels of the sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) in women which binds testosterone. The theory is that if we can bind testosterone sufficiently that chain of activity that causes genetic hair loss (male pattern baldness) will be blocked, too, by reducing the amount of testosterone in the blood. No real evidence for green tea's role in stopping hair loss exists, but it worked for me! Note: Drinking the tea - and a good quality green tea - worked. Taking the pills didn't seem to do a thing for my hair loss. And neither did drinking decaffeinated. Hypothyroid patients: avoid this because of the fluoride (blocks thyroid hormone) unless you are currently taking strong
iodine
, as in
Lugol's Drops
.
Evening Primrose Oil
--
Evening Primrose
, from the North American weed of the same name, seems to balance hormones, including thyroid and sex hormones so it's a first-line attack against thinning hair in women, even recommended by dermatologists. About 9% of an evening primrose oil softgel is the long-chain fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) whose action is anti-inflammatory. 500 - 1000mg morning and night should do the trick but it's important to find one with Vitamin E or another antioxidant to prevent oxidation of the fatty acids. (These oils are fragile, and when I switched to a cheap brand I noticed it was ineffective.)
Copper Peptides
-
Copper peptides
have been shown to induce hair growth. When one of Dr. Loren Pickart's skin cream study participants used his product on her head - because nothing had worked for her hair loss problem - all her hair grew back! So he developed copper peptide products for hair. Copper Peptides were proven to thicken the hair strand itself which goes a long way to reduce the appearance of thinning hair, and recently the FDA was convinced by studies that show copper peptides induce hair regrowth. I love the stuff because it makes my hair thicker and turns some of the gray back. I take a
zinc supplement
when I use copper peptides on anything because copper depletes zinc.
You can get the Folligen products here
, but I honestly recommend buying the
stronger copper peptides for skin at www.skinbio.com
. Use the serum with a dropper, and put the
super Cop cream
around the hair line. It says it's for skin but everyone who is using it for hair is getting great results. You'll be blue so doing this before bed will keep you from getting knocked off people's Christmas card lists.
Emu Oil
-
Emu Oil
has liposomes which push ingredients into the scalp so a lot of people use this after copper peptides In addition, A Boston University study reported that emu oil activated 80% of dormant hair follicles into the hair-growing stage! I use a
a dropper bottle
for this because it's one of the best oils you can put on your scalp, any time. You can get Emu Oil with more hair loss ingredients, like saw palmetto which is usually for men, at skinbio.com.
Rogaine
- It's a big secret but a LOT of women are using
Rogaine
. It doesn't work for everyone but it's worked for everyone that I know. The problem with Rogaine is the hair you grow belongs to it, not you, so if you stop using
Rogaine
it falls out. That isn't fun.
Propecia
is a drug that can't be taken by women but which works very well for men. The FDA approved it for treating hair loss. Like minoxidyl Propecia prevents the DHT conversion at the follicle level. You do wind up taking it forever, like Rogaine. The problem is it can interfere with testosterone. I would not take this long term.
Iron
loss, even when you don't have the symptoms of extreme iron deficiency, may be to blame. Try ferrous fumerate - a well-absorbed form of iron formulated to be easy on the stomach and doesn't cause constipation, if you think this could be the cause of your hair loss. Men rarely have low iron.
B12
deficiency is apparently more common in women who have lost hair or who have thinning hair. Take a lot of B12 just to keep hair healthy. (A friend is getting shots from her doctor-husband and says her hair and nails are growing like crazy.)
Biotin
is essential to hair growth. Doctors often prescribe it when prescribing hair loss treatments such as Propecia or minoxidil (Rogaine).
Biotin
did nothing to help my hair loss but it did help a lot with recoloring gray hairs.
MSM
is another hair and skin substance.
Methylsulfonylmethane or MSM
contains sulphur which can be intrinsic to the structural development of hair. 700 mg of MSM daily is often recommended for hair health in general and hair loss in particular.
Vitamin E
- ALL the tocopherols and
tocotrienols
, too! Dry, dull and falling hair can be symptoms of a Vitamin E deficiency so it would make sense to step up the Vitamin E, as well.
Magnesium
- 300 mg - In a laboratory study, rats fed a diet deficient in magnesium lost hair.
Inositol
- another B-vitamin: In a laboratory study, rats fed a diet low in biotin or inositol became hairless!
Ginseng
may help a bit for women whose hair loss is due to hormonal imbalances insofar as it can help stimulate glands thereby contributing to hormone balance.
Ginseng
is known to help with symptoms of perimenopause and menopause for the same reason.
Tagamet
- 300mg 5x a day: In 1987 study, 7 out of 10 women with moderate to severe female pattern baldness who took this dose of
Tagamet
for 5 months showed hair re-growth. This is the potent antacid for gastritis! You never know....
We used to recommend soy but we take it back! Soy is antagonistic to thyroid hormone levels and low levels will cause hair loss.
