You know what people are saying about Dr. Loren Pickard's copper peptide products?
"Finally I'm seeing results."
"After all these years I found something that does something."
"Wow! That was fast! I thought I'd have to wait until I was 82."
Isn't that sick that we dump so much money and time into skin products that just. don't. work.?

We still need progress in this area but Dr. Pickard has a start here. Hydroxy acids (glycolic and salycilic) to remove outer skin debris combined with copper peptides which remove inner debris, speeds up the skin renewal process at higher rates than even Retin-A so you can actually get ahead of the aging game - and go backwards.

"REVERSE" is the operative word when you get over 45. We want to see "this REVERSES aging." We don't want to see "Now you can keep up with Father Time!" No. That's not interesting. We want to see, "Slowly peel away that old face of yours until you're back where you were when you were 30!" I can live with 30. Who can make that happen!!!???

Here is the list of what happens to skin as it ages:
  • Wrinkles -
  • Lost elasticity
  • Lost firmness
  • Uneven coloring
  • Thinning skin
  • Diminishing subcutaneous fat layer The discovery that is showing results in all of these areas is copper peptides. It has its limitations but nothing like all other products on the market.
Dr. Loren Pickart did experiments in wound healing with the copper peptides he isolated and had success with very high concentrations of the peptides and very low concentrations of anti-microbial agents.
(Interesting notes: Healing with GHK-Cu works best with light bandaging. Wet bandages nullified the effects )

During the wound healing experiments, he only incidentally found that the application of skin creams containing GHK-Cu, increased the thickness of the epidermis and dermis, increased skin elasticity, reduced wrinkles, and resulted in a removal of skin imperfections such as blotchiness and sun damage marks, while producing a significant increase in subcutaneous fat cells

This latter -increase in subcutaneous fat cells- is something no other ingredient that I've been able to find can claim to do and it's a biggie for us older folks. I am not sure if we can get the results just putting copper peptides on skin that has wrinkle scars because in this study he was healing wounds and perhaps getting the peptides deeper into lower levels of the skin. )

This aspect of copper peptides was the MOST interesting to me because 4 sets of collagen injections in my face over 2 years in the same skin area seemed to have damaged the subcutaneous fat, flattening it altogether, giving me a wrinkle AND a visible indentation and diminishing the skin quality! That this CAN HAPPEN - and no one is telling you! - was confirmed when I did a search on "injection site atrophy" with a host of drug warning pages turning up. One would think the drugs themselves caused the atrophy but Hello! When they're ALL risking atrophy - including vaccines! - maybe it's the injections, eh? All seem to confirm that this happens particularly if the injections are too superficial. One says "less than 5 mm beneath skin surface." I believe it's a simple crowding of the cells. If you can smash them with clay and plastic surgeons can speed skin tightening after liposuction with tight girdles, imagine pumping a piece of your face with something that moves everything over!

I'm still looking for the reversal of this damage. I've been using the copper peptides for 8 months and, while I can rave about their wrinkle-reducing ability and skin-tightening effects, I'm still waiting for the increase in subcutaneous fat cells. )

Between 1998 and 2002, more extensive human studies solidified these observations.
    • Abulghani et al reported GHK-Cu was more effective in stimulating new collagen development than vitamin C, retinoic acid (Retin-A or Renova), or melatonin (29).
    • Appa et al reported that in eight weeks, a GHK-containing liquid foundation improved epidermal thickness, increased skin elasticity, and improved skin appearance (30).
    • Leyden et al found, in another eight week study, such creams to reduce visible signs of photodamage and increased skin density in eight weeks on facial skin (31)
    • and also in a further, placebo-controlled study (71 females, 12 weeks) found that GHK-Cu-containing face creams reduced wrinkles and fine lines while increasing skin elasticity, density and thickness
    • while another placebo-controlled study (41 females, 12 weeks) found that a GHK-Cu containing eye cream reduced wrinkles and fine lines and improved eye appearance (32).
Cosmetic products that contain GHK-Cu include lines such as Visibly Firm by Neutrogena and Neova by ProCyte.

Encountering proplems with the copper peptides themselves
GHK-CU, as his first generation copper peptides are known, are fragile and breakdown easily. This first generation of peptides are used in Visibly Firm and Neova - both products have shown results nonetheless! (This breaking down is also a problem with Vitamin C products and CoQ10, one that has been overcome by some product manufacturers.) It also has a problem adhering to the skin surface.

Copper Peptides for healing - how about healing wrinkles and old skin?
So Dr. Loren developed a second generation of copper peptides to overcome these problems. Results of studies are fascinating.

GHK-Cu, the first round, markedly reduced scarring after surgery if injected (an aqueous solution of 1 mg/ml) down the incision line. However, the second generation copper peptides appear to be superior for such uses. (For such uses, the incisions should be left open to air or only lightly covered with gauze. Occlusive dressing and wet bandages nullify the positive effect. Is this something we need to remember for our wrinkle use?)

These copper peptides are used after major skin treatments like chemical peels, laser resurfacing, dermabrasion and, if used within two hours after the operation (by doctors): redness and inflammation is avoided without the use of corticosteroids, skin rebuilding is hastened, scars and infections are greatly lessened.

And this is key: The use of emu oil or squalane is usually used right afterward to retain moisture and push more peptides into the skin! (This should be remembered for our daily facial use, too!)

Used with hydroxy acids - alpha (like glycolic acid) and beta (like sycilic acid) - wow!
Most skin lesions can actually be removed with time and patience - and these two ingredients: copper peptides and hydroxy acids together. That they can be removed at all with a cream (!) is amazing. On the list of what can be removed (you're gonna love this) is MOLES! (I'm going to go try this right now!) Also scars - both pitted (acne) and hypertrophic - and those darned precancerous actinic keratosis. Also those annoying little skin tags.

    Here's how it works:
The hydroxy acids do the dirty work of loosening and dissolving the lesions. The strong copper peptides aid skin regeneration.
