Another impressive Eat-it-and-wear-it anti-aging supplement, Dr. Perricone has put alpha lipoic acid in most of his creams calling it "one of the most powerful antiaging, antioxidant, anti-inflammatories available." It is found in our bodies and is often called the "universal antioxidant" because it can penetrate both fat and water parts of a cell! Vitamin C is only water-soluble while Vitamin e is only fat-soluble. As an anti-aging antioxidant, it is 400 times stronger than these 2 combined!
For skin it does something that ranks it as a "remodeling" or rejuvenating ingredient. It promotes the digesting of damaged collagen - something copper peptides do, too - meaning it can redo scar tissue.
Alpha Lipoic Acid, like carnitine and CoQ10, is found inside the mitochondria but as part of an enzyme system that helps convert foods to energy. If you take alpha lipoic acid in a capsule or put it on your skin it helps with cellular metabolism (energy) as well as acting as an antioxidant. The higher the energy level in the cells, the more youthful you will look and feel. So add this to your routine of taking acetyl l-carnitine and Coq10 to keep the energy levels in the cells UP.
Note: The hair on one side of my head went totally gray after starting an alpha lipoic acid regime of 10-100mg. one or two times a day. I freaked! I finally found mention of the mere possibility that it can interfere with biotin and added biotin to my regime. A lot. Not only has all the new gray hair gone totally back to its natural color but so has some of the gray I thought was normal! There was still some gray left and feeling spoiled and not wanting to spend more money on a coloring job I was able to turn back 90% of the rest of this gray hair with spray copper peptides on my scalp. I'm not kidding! I thought maybe my hair hadn't grown since my last coloring job since I simply had no gray roots - but they're gone!!)
