Aging Skin - Wrinkles, Saggy Skin, Thinning
Aging skin. The problem gets bigger - and suddenly bigger! - one day after 45, 46, or 47, especially if you've quit exercising, still lay out in the sun or still smoke.
The problems with aging skin are multiple - and doctors I've interviewed tell me that although progress in researching wrinkling/sagging skin is slow (too slow for me!) we can expect more and more breakthroughs as time marches on, time marching on being the big problem here.
Aging Skin Problems
- Inability to hold moisture - Oil glands and other mechanisms designed to hold moisture in and on skin don't work properly which means loss of moisture, dry skin and the need to moisturize constantly. This is a BIG deal, bigger than we thought before. Without proper moisture collagen doesn't behave, proteins don't behave and a host of processes that kept skin firm don't do what they're supposed to do. So the problem winds up not being just dry skin but unhealthy, saggy skin and skin that wrinkles easily.
- Wrinkles -
Wrinkles are actually easy to get rid of although it takes time. It's keeping them from forming again, every day, that is tricky. And this relates to the degrading quality of the skin in the first place: Firmness and elasticity. If we can get our skin quality returned we won't get wrinkles back as quickly as we remove them!
- Lost elasticity sagging, stretching skin (breakdown of elastin causing inability to bounce back after you smile or use other muscles) and sagging muscles underneath the skin (see below). We want to strengthen that elastin again to stop wrinkles from forming and prevent sagging and jowls and tighten up that skin.
- Sagging muscles - weak, undertoned muscles under the skin that start slipping south as the neurotransmitters for keeping them tight and contracted decline with age.We want to strengthen and firm / tone the muscles UNDER the skin to support the fat layer and the skin itself.
- Thinning skin - Lost firmness and thickness largely from sun damage, the skin that is thinning out becomes delicate and easily wrinkled and lined. We want to thicken the skin again.
- Uneven coloring - age spots, sun damage/photo damage, sign that the skin is unhealthy, nutrient delivery system to epidermis not functioning well, skin isn't healing itself. We want to fade the skin but get it healthy enough so it will cleanse itself, carry away damaged debris like normal skin does, so it won't form spots again.
- Diminishing subcutaneous fat layer that makes it look plump and younthful! I've found ONE product that says it can increase the subcutaneous fat layer and it's for wound healing (copper peptides). Here is an area that could be addressed by ... anyone who wants to make some money!
The 3 things we can do to reverse aging skin without plastic surgery are
Use topical supplements antioxidants, moisturizers, peels and ingredients that speed up the process of taking away damaged cells below the surface (copper peptides)
Get exercise - sweat (clean) and breath heavily (circulate nutrients)
Take supplements and healthy foods - Antioxidants and more antioxidants, protein, minerals, and a good multi-vitamin
Avoid foods that cause inflammation (sweets, starchy foods)
(things you put ON your body) - and they seem to work together.
